Pre Game Speech

Ultimate dedication is what it takes to master a sport

No time for days off, no time for resorts

If you don’t want to take it serious there’s always time to abort,

Time to switch your goals, time to find to new inspiration

Erase the past, start fresh

Dwelling in the past will get you nowhere

Immune to past will lead you to a promising future

Now it’s time for round three

Go to the finals for your first cup guarantee

Rare opportunity.

If you choke, you won't get the jewelry or the great Stanley

Ergency is needed from everyone

Failure will show on the scoreboard

Reflection

Before writing Pre Game Speech I made a chart, this chart was a consumption chart of what has influenced me the past week. My main influences included the Calgary and Edmonton NHL round 2 series, and Kendrick Lamar’s new album. I used these two inspirations throughout Pre Game Speech. My first idea was to make it an acronym, the acronym I used was United in Grief by Kendrick Lamar. United in Grief is his introduction song to his new album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. I used the influence of Captain of the Edmonton Oilers Conner McDavid by forming the poem as a pre-game speech before the game 7; do or die game against Calgary.

I delivered this message through rhyming; this gives the poem a repetitive beat that ties into the tone of being inspirational.

“Rare opportunity.

If you choke, you won't get the jewelry or the great stanley.

Ergency is needed from everyone”

I use the word jewelry and Stanley to refer to the Stanley Cup and the ring you get after winning the cup. I broke the rhyme to have it stand out; if you are not willing to put it all on the line for this series then you might need to find a new inspiration.
